The Story of Cendryma

Hailing from the verdant landscapes of Oregon, USA, Daniel Sampson a.k.a. Cendryma weaves the raw power of nature into the fabric of his music. Growing up in the stormy Pacific Northwest, Cendryma's sound echoes the elemental forces of the ocean’s fury, rain-soaked skies, and winter's solitude. Incorporating environmental elements like rain samples beneath driving basslines and darker tones reflecting moody winters, Cendryma creates deeply textured, captivating, and soulful compositions that resonate with listeners, imbuing his music with a dynamic atmosphere.

Daniel began his electronic music journey in 2007, but it wasn’t until 2017 that he publicly released his first Trance tracks under the Tecnosine alias. By 2020, Tecnosine had fully shifted to Downtempo, marking his first major creative transition. While studying Jazz and Pop Music, he continually experimented with melodies in his college dorm room, even as he focused on clarinet and traditional music. His dedication to trance music defined the early years of his career, but he eventually felt constrained by its rigid tempos and structures. In 2022, he introduced the Sam Cydan moniker, debuting his first major release under the new name. That same year, the pandemic spurred his exploration of Progressive House, culminating in the birth of Cendryma in 2023, a project that truly embodies his evolving sound and creative vision.

Dutch producer Alex O’Rion has been a significant inspiration in recent years, alongside the Australian duo GMJ & Matter and their Meanwhile label, which helped shape his sound. Their music aligned with Cendryma’s aspirations, and he considers their influence pivotal to his musical development. Additionally, the renowned UK label Anjunadeep and one of the breakout stars of the melodic house scene, Marsh have also sculpted his evolving sound. Although his trance roots are part of his history, his present and future are defined by the ascending trajectory of Progressive House, where he continually explores the genre's frontiers without being pigeonholed into a singular style.

As a producer, Cendryma embraces an organic approach to music creation, allowing the process to unfold naturally. By developing loops and ideas over time, he creates intricately woven compositions that evoke both motion and emotion. His label ‘Cydana Sounds’ acts as a personal vessel for creative exploration. While he envisions the potential for collaborating with other artists in the future, it currently serves as an intimate platform for his own work. Cendryma’s live performances and DJ sets embody the fluidity of his production style. His SoundCloud "DJ Set" series showcases this organic approach, transitioning from introspective ambient passages to vibrant, driving beats. His early tracks, including "Function" and the debut EP Terraform/Wired, alongside the recent EP Era Mobilus, have received significant acclaim. Furthermore, his most recent release "Pass Through," on Forty Cats' Purrfection Records is generating considerable buzz.

Looking ahead, Cendryma seeks to expand his impact within the global Progressive House scene. With upcoming releases on esteemed labels like Pattern and UV, alongside new projects under his Cydana Sounds imprint, he is set to delve deeper into electronic music. His forthcoming EP will refine his sound by blending signature melodic elements with innovative concepts, reflecting a dynamic journey rooted in Progressive House yet looking beyond traditional boundaries. Cendryma’s journey has only just begun!
